TaunusTurm & Merlin^®

At 170 meters in height, 40 floors and approximately 85,000 m² of usable space, the TaunusTurm by Tishman Speyer is one of Frankfurt’s most modern high-rise buildings. As a premium property with high demands on indoor climate quality and energy efficiency, precise control of air humidity plays a key role.

At the end of last year, the operator decided to completely modernize the air humidification system. The existing systems had become increasingly prone to failure and were partially out of operation, negatively affecting system performance. The replacement was carried out during ongoing operation—entirely without disruption and with no impact on building occupants.

ORBIT WING^® systems from Merlin Technology were selected for the project. These systems are specifically designed for large-scale air handling units (AHUs). In the TaunusTurm, the units feature impressive widths ranging from 1.5 to 4.9 meters, supplying all 40 floors of the building. Thanks to their compact design and patented ORBIT WING^® technology, the new modules were integrated into the existing AHU casings without any structural modifications.

The patented system enables an extremely short evaporation distance and achieves a post-evaporation rate of 98 %—completely without condensate formation in the ductwork. This significantly enhances hygienic safety, while water consumption is noticeably reduced due to the high evaporation efficiency.

Another decisive advantage is the simple and rapid installation, which not only shortens project timelines but also significantly reduces service and maintenance requirements. The flow-optimized design further supports stable and energy-efficient operation of the air handling systems.

With this air humidification retrofit, the TaunusTurm sends a clear signal for sustainable building operation. The modernization improves operational reliability, increases energy and resource efficiency, and ensures a hygienically stable indoor climate at a premium level.
