Schmidlin Holzbau AG & Merlin®
Improved Indoor Climate and Effective Dust Control in Modern Wood Construction
In wood processing, indoor climate and dust control play a key role in ensuring efficient workflows and comfortable production conditions. With a merlin® VISCORE direct room humidification, Schmidlin Holzbau AG relies on a solution that specifically improves the indoor climate and reduces dust levels in the workshop. The combination of high-pressure atomization, nozzle bars, and water treatment has resulted in an air humidification solution tailored to the requirements of modern timber construction.
Schmidlin Holzbau AG, headquartered in Steinen, Switzerland, specializes in modern timber construction. The company plans and executes custom timber construction projects, combining the versatile possibilities of wood as a natural building material with contemporary design and fabrication.
In day-to-day production, conditions inside the workshop play an important role alongside well-coordinated workflows. Woodworking, in particular, generates production-related dust that can spread through the air and settle on work surfaces, machines, and components. A balanced workshop climate and the lowest possible dust levels therefore contribute significantly to pleasant working and production conditions.
Challenge: Dust Levels and Workshop Climate in Day-to-Day Production
For Schmidlin Holzbau AG, improving conditions in the production hall was a top priority. The company sought a solution that would allow for targeted control of humidity while simultaneously improving dust levels in the production area.
Air humidification needed to be distributed as evenly as possible throughout the space and integrate seamlessly into the existing facility structure. In particular, the different ceiling areas and the structural characteristics of the production hall had to be taken into account.
A practical implementation tailored to the actual production requirements was therefore crucial. The central goals of the project were a more comfortable workshop climate, effective dust control, and comprehensive humidification of the relevant production areas.
A merlin® VISCORE direct room humidification system with nozzle bars and water treatment was installed in the production hall. The system was specifically tailored to the hall’s spatial conditions.
Finely atomized water is introduced directly into the indoor air via the nozzle bars installed in the ceiling areas. The even distribution of moisture supports the hall’s indoor climate and helps to better bind dust present in the air.
Water treatment is an integral part of the overall solution and provides the water quality required for the operation of the high-pressure atomization system. Thanks to the targeted arrangement of the nozzle bars, the air humidification system could be adapted to the varying heights and structural features of the production hall.
Installation and commissioning were carried out by the Swiss Merlin partner Pfaff Kälte- & Klimatechnik AG. During implementation, the nozzle bars were carefully adapted to the different ceiling areas and structural conditions of the factory hall.
Thanks to its targeted integration into the existing hall structure, the air humidification system blends seamlessly into the production environment.
Since commissioning in April 2026, the merlin® VISCORE high-pressure atomization system has been supporting the climatic conditions in the production hall. According to customer feedback, the system is operating satisfactorily. Schmidlin Holzbau AG is particularly pleased with the improved dust situation and the resulting indoor climate.
Direct room humidification thus fulfills the project’s key objectives: Humidity is specifically regulated, dust present in the indoor air can be more effectively captured, and the workshop climate is positively influenced. The arrangement of the nozzle bars, tailored to the workshop, ensures that humidification can be effectively applied in the relevant areas.
“The system has been running reliably since it went into operation. The improved dust control and the more pleasant climate in our production hall are particularly noticeable. We are very satisfied with the results.”
Mario Besimo, Project Manager, Timber Construction
With the merlin® VISCORE high-pressure atomization, Schmidlin Holzbau AG now has a direct room humidification system that has been specifically tailored to the requirements of the production hall. Nozzle bars, water treatment, and an installation adapted to the spatial conditions together form a functional, comprehensive solution.
The project demonstrates how modern air humidification can be effectively integrated into an existing timber construction production facility. The targeted humidification supports the workshop climate while also contributing to improved dust suppression.
The positive feedback from ongoing operations confirms that the project’s key objectives have been achieved. Thus, the implementation at Schmidlin Holzbau AG provides a practical example of the use of merlin® high-pressure atomization in modern wood construction.
